What is a a survey (poll) widget?
A survey widget or a poll widget usually takes up a small space on a web page. It can be used to gather opinions, attract visitors and add stickiness to a website. The topics of the survey questions are normally related to the contents of the website. Examples of such polls can be: “How did you find our site?” “What do you think of our fast checkout lane?” or “Which movie should win the best picture award in the Oscars?”
Even though widgets are usually small and take only a corner or may be little part of your entire web page, there is no real definition of what is the limit of its size. A very simple poll can have just one question with a couple of choices like the few small units shown below, while others may contain a long list of choices or multiple questions. Some survey widgets may even take up the entire web page.

Many websites provide poll or survey services that allow you to easily create your own polls to run on your own website or blog. After creating the widget, you will either get a piece of HTML codes to manually put on your site or be provided with some mechanisms that automatically publish to your blog or social networking place. You can usually pick a theme or have a choice from a wide range of colors, text fonts and sizes to customize your widget. Some sites with advanced features even allow you to have full control of the layout and all the details of the widget using Cascading Style Sheet (CSS.) This allows you to integrate the widget seamlessly into your website.
Some websites allow you to
publish your surveys on their sites directly. This comes in handy if you don’t have a website or don’t want to go through the trouble to copy the piece of HTML codes to your own page.
